- Their is no text on the cover, this makes the album myterious

- The use of men means mean can relate to it more and their age suggests that it would appeal to older men rather than young boys or teenagers.

Representation:
- Representation of men

Inlay:
- The image shows the bar from another angle and it looks messy which suggests anarchy which is associated with the rock genre.

Pink Floyd A Momentary Lapse of Reason

Image:
- The beds look like a graveyard and the man looks like he is greiving, which could represent the genre because it looks lonely and sad which could be expected in the rock genre unlike, for example the pop genre.
- The setting is very isolated and loney
- The colours are very dull and dreary

- The text is very simple which gives an idea of how old the album is because it doesn't look as trendy.

Inlay:

- The inlay is also very plain
- It holds the image on the cover, which keeps a running theme.

Back:
- The back of the album is also very plain and doesn't give much indication into the album's genre.
- The song list is on the back helps the audience relate to the album because they get an idea of how the band think.

The Rasmus Hide From The Sun CD

Front:
Image:
The image is of a decayed butterfly
The butterfly looks derelict and mistreaten, showing the lack of compassion or emotion towards the album
The butterfly is a countertype to how butterflys are usually percieved or related to, butterflys have connotations of colour and vividness, yet this seems to have all the life drained out of it, this allows us to assume that the band is trying to break away from societys grasp of the media

Text:
"The Rasmus"
"Hide from the sun"
The writing on the rasmus matches the style of the album, there are decomposing leaves around the title, keeping with the theme of the album

Genre:
the creme background contrasts the tones of decaying
half of the background has been tainted with brown smudges

Target Audience:
The lack of colour suggests its for males
The way the image presents itself connotes a lack of respect commonly associated with teenagers

Inlay:
left side:
The name of the album/artist
names of band members
faded band name in style of album

right side: blank background with the tainted stained colour that is shown in both back and fore ground

green day american idiot video

Mise en scene
-       Green back ground
-       Green guitars
-       Green liquid
There is a great deal of green used as a theme in the music video, as its iconic to the band.
Another reason why green was used was to emphasise the envious personality that are held.

Clothing
-       Black clothes
-       red ties
-       Green contact lenses
The choice of dark colours emphasises the green eyes on the people, as green is the dominant theme of the video.

Men
-       Energetic
-       Eccentric
-       Morbid
They run around the stage showing a lot of energy and excitement, which helps put their opinions across in their lyrics.
In one shot of the video, the singer uses his tie as a noose, which helps show the desperateness of their situation

Women

-       none present
The absence of women is quite often noticeable in punk bands, as their songs are usually about the betrayal of women

IdleWild a modern way of letting go video

Mise en scene
-       Roses
-       Red ties
-       Red clothing

Red is a recurring theme it could represent love or heartbreak, but as the song has lyrics that hold meanings of heartbreak, the music video would represent the lyrics

Clothing
-       Casual attire (at the start)
-       Formal attire (as the video progression)

The contrast between the apparel as the video progression shows how his life has changed over the events mentioned in the song

Men
-       The men are in an enclosed space, which shows how the men have been hurt by women
Women
      -             There are no women present in the video which reinforces the idea that the men would have been hurt by women

Sum 41 Fat Lip Video

Mise en scene:
-          There are many props and items in the music video that correspond to the negative stereotypes that are associated with youth.
-          Stolen items:  a goose,  a shopping trolley
-          The stolen items represent the rebellion portrayed by young people, and that youth are often seen as vandals who are a menace to society
Clothing:
-          A strong sense of social class is used in this video, and the choice of attire of the people help distinguish between the social classes.
The large variety of social groups in the video, is counteractive towards the clear distinct social boundaries that are usual present in youth life
Women:
-          The women were dressed quite scantily clad, which could be perceived as empowering, by embracing their sexuality, yet in this context it was to embrace youth whilst the opportunity was available, added with the dominant emotion of wanted to be noticed in the “high school era” and wearing revealing clothes allowed women to feel more comfortable and accepted by the men in the video.
Men:
-          The men were dressed in very casual and dark clothes, the symbolism of this is that the less time spent on their apparel, increased the masculinity of the men, giving a “devil may care this way” vibe.
Editing:
-          Straight cuts
-          Jump cuts
-          Shot reverse shots

30 Seconds to Mars The Kill Video

Mise en scene:
-          Black clothing; connote fear and darkness
-          Black suits; high class and differentiate the characters
-          Low angle shots of the band on stage; audience looking up to them
Editing:
-          Straight cuts to create verisimilitude
-          Slow motion to emphasise argument
-          Fast straight cuts; unsure of what you’re saying and increase dramatic effect, matches drums
Genre:
-          Close ups of instruments
-          Following the story of a horror film
Target audience:
-          All male band suggest boys would find it easier to relate
-          Plot may not appeal to girls
-          Young band, young target audience
Narrative:
-          Video follows the story of The Shining
-          Equilibrium; the band go and stay in a hotel away from everyone
-          Disruption; strange things begin happening around the hotel
-          Recognition of disruption; the lead singer follows someone in a suit around the corridors to find it’s himself
-          Attempt to repair disruption; he faces himself in what looks like an argument whilst singing
-          Reinstatement of equilibrium; they go into a room where everyone’s in doubles
Representation:
-          Shows representations of gender, the video shows the lead singer to be strong as he pushes his double around and shouts a lot.
Enigma:
-          The fast straight cuts make it hard to see what’s happening so the audience wonders what’s going on
-          The video ends with no explanation

Paramore Crushcrushcrush Video

Mise en scene:
-          Dark clothing, girl’s the only one in colour this makes her stand out as she’s the lead and the only woman
-          Long shots of the band, this helps identify them as a group
-          Close ups of the instruments, this identifies the genre
-          Close ups of facial piercings, rebellious
-          The sun behind them looks like a stage back light
Editing:
-          Straight cuts to create verisimilitude and keep up with the pace and rhythm of the music
Genre:
-          They play with high energy, woman head bangs and jumps around – she has masculine traits
-          Handheld camera movement to make it shaky, this makes everything look obscure and unruly
Target audience:
-          An almost all male band means boys can relate to the band and the female leads means girls can relate to her. This makes the target audience both male and female
-          The band are young, so the target audience are likely to be young men and women, mainly teenagers
Mode of address:
-          The way they are smashing their instruments makes the mood aggressive and angry
-          The singer sings into the camera, to the audience – creates a relationship between her and the audience as they feel she is singing to them personally
Representation:
-          This video has a representation of youth, showing them as unruly and rebellious
-          Smashing their instruments and wearing facial piercings
